Professor Hugh Devlin is Honorary Professor in the Division of Dentistry at the University of Manchester and Director of the Advanced Restorative Dentistry MSc program. His pioneering research develops AI diagnostic tools for dental radiographs, including systems for osteoporosis detection that achieved international recognition.
Professor Devlin's work includes developing software that analyzes dental radiographs to detect osteoporosis with accuracy matching human experts. His osteoporosis detection system received significant media coverage and won the 6th Northwest Biomedical Award for 'Healthcare Project of the Year' in 2007. He co-founded Manchester Imaging Ltd., a university spin-out company commercializing diagnostic technologies.
His research interests focus on:

Honors include the IADR Distinguished Scientist Award for Research in Prosthodontics and Implants (2011) for contributions to dental technology. As Associate Editor of the Journal of Prosthodontics, he maintains leadership in restorative dentistry research.
Professor Devlin teaches restorative dentistry principles, oversees student examinations, and directs postgraduate programs in advanced restorative techniques.
