Hugh Cagle is an Associate Professor in the Department of History at the University of Utah, where he also serves as Director of the Diplomacy and International Studies program. His research spans Latin American history, comparative colonialism (particularly Portuguese colonialism in Brazil, India, and Goa), and science and technology studies (STS). He explores how scientific knowledge shaped colonial projects and how medical concepts influenced the construction of 'the tropics' as a geopolitical category.
