Huayang Zhang

Dr. Huayang Zhang is a Grant-Funded Researcher (A) at the University of Adelaide, affiliated with the School of Chemical Engineering under the Faculty of Sciences, Engineering and Technology. His research focuses on the rational design and synthesis of nanostructured photo- and photoelectrocatalysts for solar energy applications, including photocatalytic hydrogen production and water splitting. He specializes in low-dimensional nanomaterials, such as quantum dots and porous carbons, and has pioneered methods for large-scale production of biomass-derived functionalized carbon using sodium bicarbonate as a pore-forming agent. Additionally, he has contributed to interdisciplinary research by integrating bio-enzymes with artificial materials for photoelectrochemical applications.

Dr. Zhang is eligible to supervise Masters and PhD students in areas related to his research expertise. His work emphasizes advanced in situ characterizations, surface chemistry, and computational modeling to advance sustainable energy solutions.
