Hua Jiang is the Interim Associate Dean for Diversity, Equity, Inclusivity, and Accessibility (DEIA) at the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, Syracuse University, and holds the academic rank of Professor in the Public Relations Department. She previously served as Associate Dean for Academic Affairs (2022–2024), leading curricular innovation across Newhouse’s main, NYC, LA, D.C., and online programs. Her leadership includes developing initiatives like the combined journalism degree, online strategic communications, and the Bandier music business program.
Education: Ph.D. in Communication (University of Maryland, College Park); M.A. in Linguistics and B.A. in English Literature (Nanjing University, China).
Research focuses on employee communication, corporate social responsibility, mental health campaigns, and AI’s role in public relations. She has published over 50 peer-reviewed articles in journals like Communication Research and Journal of Public Relations Research, and serves on editorial boards of top PR journals.
Teaching spans undergraduate and graduate courses in PR research, campaigns, management, and leadership. Her DEIA initiatives emphasize student/faculty recruitment, inclusive programming, and community engagement aligned with Newhouse’s strategic plan.
