Hsu-Te Cheng is an Associate Teaching Professor of Chinese Language at Emory University's Department of Russian and East Asian Languages and Cultures. He holds a B.A. and M.A. in English Languages and Literatures and Linguistics from National Taiwan Normal University, and a Ph.D. in Linguistics from the University of Connecticut (2013). Prior to joining Emory in 2016, he served as a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Literatures, Cultures, and Languages at the University of Connecticut.
His research focuses on syntactic theories, East Asian syntax, Chinese linguistics, and Chinese pedagogy. Specific research topics include nominal structures in Chinese, argument ellipsis theory, Ga/No Conversion in Japanese syntax, A-not-A questions in Chinese, and the application of tonal sandhi rules to Chinese language teaching.
