Prof. Hristo Svilenov is a Professor of Biopharmaceutical Technology at the Technical University of Munich (TUM School of Life Sciences), appointed in September 2024. He previously held a professorship at the University of Gent (Belgium) and completed a postdoc at TUM (2020-2021). His research focuses on recombinant therapeutic proteins, particularly in mammalian cell cultures, using orthogonal analytical methods to advance drug development. Key areas include antibody engineering, protein stability, and biopharmaceutical formulation strategies.
- Education:
- Pharmacy studies at Medical University of Sofia
- PhD in Pharmaceutical Technology from Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (2019)
His work combines mechanistic insights into protein behavior with translational applications, such as designing antiviral ACE2-Fc fusion proteins targeting SARS-CoV-2. He has pioneered methods like the ReFOLD assay for predicting protein aggregation and stabilization in formulations.
Notable awards include the ERC Starting Grant (2024), TUM Ambassador (2023), and the Carl-Wilhelm-Scheele-Preis (2020). His research bridges fundamental biophysical studies with clinical applications, emphasizing the development of stable, effective biotherapeutics.
