Professor Howard Baylis is a faculty member at the Department of Zoology, University of Cambridge, where he leads the Baylis Group. His research focuses on understanding how intracellular signaling networks, particularly those involving calcium and inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate (IP3), regulate the physiology, behavior, and development of animals using Caenorhabditis elegans as a model organism.
- Studies interactions between IP3 signaling and presenilins (linked to Alzheimer’s disease)
- Investigates RNAi regulation by signaling pathways
- Collaborates on C. elegans models of human diseases
- Explores caveolin roles in lipid trafficking and neuronal function
His work integrates molecular genetics, protein interactions, and whole-organism assays. The group actively accepts PhD students and contributes to research on cell signaling, developmental biology, and neurogenetics. Publications span topics including calcium homeostasis, disease modeling, and genetic pathway analysis.
