Houyuan Jiang is Professor of Management Science and Director of the MPhil in Management Programme at Judge Business School, University of Cambridge. His academic journey began with continuous optimization, shifted to combinatorial optimization, and now focuses on healthcare operations management. He holds a BSc from Anhui Normal University, an MSc from Chinese Academy of Science, and a PhD from University of New South Wales.
Houyuan Jiang's research spans healthcare operations management, supply chain management, and revenue management. He builds mathematical models to uncover managerial insights and develop computational methods for optimizing systems that utilize limited resources such as hospital beds and medical staff. His work addresses critical challenges in healthcare delivery, including reducing cancer waiting lists, managing trauma service demand, and minimizing hospital appointment no-shows through innovative scheduling approaches.
His recent publications reveal a strong focus on healthcare operations, with particular emphasis on pandemic response modeling, trauma care capacity, and healthcare market consolidation. His research integrates operations research methodologies with practical healthcare challenges, producing actionable insights for healthcare providers and policymakers. The interdisciplinary nature of his work bridges management science, healthcare policy, and mathematical optimization.
