Houk Jang serves as a Researcher at Brookhaven National Laboratory's Center for Functional Nanomaterials within the Energy & Photon Sciences Directorate. His work focuses on AI-accelerated nanoscience, developing autonomous tools for 2D material-stack production and characterization to enhance user facility efficiency.
He holds a B.S. in Material Science (2010) and Ph.D. in Nano Engineering (2014) from Sungkyunkwan University, Korea, with doctoral research on silicon nanomembranes in flexible electronics.
Jang's research integrates 2D materials, micro/nanofabrication, and analog neural networks to automate nanomaterial production. His AI-driven characterization systems target 24/7 operational capability, significantly reducing manual effort for facility users while advancing optoelectronic and machine vision applications.
At the CFN, Jang leads the QPress project, creating integrated software for module operation and AI-based flake analysis. This initiative bridges nanoelectronics with computational intelligence to streamline heterogeneous 2D material synthesis for next-generation electronic devices.
