Hossein Asgari is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at UniSA Creative, University of South Australia. He holds a PhD in Creative Writing from the J.M. Coetzee Centre for Creative Practice, University of Adelaide (2021), where his thesis on Forugh Farrokhzad earned the Dean’s Commendation for Doctoral Thesis Excellence.
His research focuses on trauma, diasporic writing, and psychoanalytic approaches to poetry. Current projects include analyzing trauma in Forugh Farrokhzad’s works and a short story collection inspired by her poetry. Creatively, his novel Only Sound Remains (shortlisted for the 2024 Miles Franklin Literary Award) and upcoming Desolation (2025) explore diasporic experiences and existential themes.
Publications include short stories in Splinter, Overland, and other journals, alongside academic articles on Iranian literature. Awards include the 2021 Dean’s Commendation for Thesis Excellence.
