Dr. Horace (Wing Hei) Chan is a Research Fellow at Monash University's Stem Cells and Cancer Laboratory, led by Prof. Helen Abud. He holds a PhD in Neuroscience and Developmental Biology from the University of Melbourne. His research focuses on intestinal stem cells and colorectal cancer using organoid models, CRISPR/Cas genome editing, and live cell imaging. Key interests include understanding stem cell regulation in normal tissues and tumors, with a focus on drug resistance mechanisms and patient-derived organoid models.
Education: PhD in Neuroscience and Developmental Biology (University of Melbourne). Research contributions include over 17 peer-reviewed publications and 8 scientific awards, including multiple travel awards and presentation honors at international conferences. His work aligns with UN SDG goals addressing health and innovation.
Research activities span 2009–2024, with collaborations in cancer biology, stem cell biology, and regenerative medicine. Notable achievements include developing novel organoid culture systems and identifying biomarkers for chemoresistance in colorectal cancer.
- Awards: ASSCR-NSCFA Travel Awards (2019, 2022), ANS Travel Award (2016), ASSCR-AGCTS Best Oral Presentation (2022).
- Grants/Support: Supported by Mendeley readership and X user engagement across multiple publications.
Labs/Teams: Active member of the Stem Cells and Cancer Laboratory, collaborating with Prof. Abud and international researchers in cancer biology and organoid technology.
