Hongye Sun

Jun.-Prof. Hongye Sun is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology at Technische Universität Ilmenau, leading the Functional Materials Group. She lectures master's students and focuses on flexible electronics, stretchable materials, and wearable technology applications.

Education: She earned her M.S. and Ph.D. in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), advised by Prof. Matthew Ming-Fai YUEN. Her Ph.D. thesis addressed thermal interface materials. Postdoctoral research at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) under Prof. Norbert Willenbacher focused on enhancing elastomer conductivity for flexible electronics.

Research interests include stretchable conductive materials for actuators, sensors, and circuits in smart textiles/wearables, alongside integrating microchips and resistors into flexible substrates. Her work addresses durability under mechanical stress.

Pre-academic career: R&D chemist at Henkel's Innovation Center developing thermal interface materials for batteries.
