Hongwei Yang

Hongwei Yang is an Associate Professor at UMass Chan Medical School, affiliated with the Department of Neurological Surgery within the T.H. Chan School of Medicine. He also holds positions in the NeuroNexus Institute and the Neuroscience Department at the Morningside Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. His research focuses on understanding the molecular and genetic mechanisms underlying neurological disorders, particularly hydrocephalus and neuro-oncological conditions like glioblastoma. He holds an MD from China Medical University and a PhD in Medical Sciences from the University of Tokyo.

Research Interests:

Dr. Yang’s work centers on identifying genetic mutations and molecular pathways involved in neurological diseases. Key areas include studying ependymal cell dysfunction in idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus (INPH), exploring the role of FOXJ1 and AK9 mutations, and investigating therapeutic strategies for glioblastoma. His interdisciplinary approach combines molecular genetics, cellular biology, and clinical neurosurgery.
