معرفی
Dr. Hongbo Zhang is an Assistant Professor of Mechatronics Engineering at Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU). He holds a PHD from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (2013), an MS (2006), and a BSET from Jilin University (1998). His research focuses on developing robotics, automation, and smart sensing technologies to improve quality of life for marginalized groups. Key projects include the Smart Sensing and Robotics Lab, LED panel thermal optimization, and the Iron Man Robotics system for heavy-load terrain navigation. Office hours follow an open-door policy in Room 121, Davis Science Building.
Education:
- PHD, Virginia Tech, 2013
- MS, Virginia Tech, 2006
- BSET, Jilin University, 1998
Research Highlights: Dr. Zhang’s work integrates robotics with real-world applications such as disaster relief, accessibility for disabled populations, and extreme environmental tolerance (e.g., thermal stability in LED systems). Ongoing projects include laser robotics for precision tasks and the Big Tank robotics platform for heavy-load transport. Collaborative efforts with cadets and students like Nathan and Logan showcase his commitment to hands-on engineering education.
Labs/Initiatives: Directs the Smart Sensing and Automation Lab and hosts the Robotics Summer Camp. Active in developing open-source robotics solutions for societal challenges.
