Hollie Hix-Small is an Assistant Professor of Special Education and Coordinator of the Early Intervention/Early Childhood Special Education (EI/ECSE) Program at Portland State University's College of Education, a position she has held since 2014.
Her educational background includes:
- BSc (honors) in Developmental Psychology
- MSc in Early Intervention
- PhD in Early Intervention and Special Education from the University of Oregon (2007)
Dr. Hix-Small's research focuses on the timely identification of children with developmental delays and disabilities, development of coordinated early intervention systems, and professional development for early childhood professionals. Her work specifically targets infants and toddlers (birth to age three) experiencing developmental and social-emotional challenges, driven by her commitment to improving outcomes for vulnerable children in alternative care settings. She brings extensive international experience, having contributed to national early childhood intervention systems across six countries in Central/Eastern Europe, Eurasia, and Peru.
