Holger M. Koch is a Professor at the Institute for Prevention and Occupational Medicine (IPA) of the University Bochum, Germany, and an Honorary Professor at the Queensland Alliance for Environmental Health Sciences. With over 25 years of expertise in chemical exposure and risk assessment, he leads human biomonitoring research on plasticizers, bisphenols, UV filters, and pesticides, contributing to 200+ peer-reviewed publications. His work includes European Human Biomonitoring Initiative (HBM4EU) and the German Environmental Specimen Bank.
- Education: Doctorate in Occupational Toxicology (University Erlangen-Nuremberg, 2006)
- Current Role: Head of Human-Biomonitoring Laboratories at IPA since 2006
- Advisory Roles: Chair of German Environment Agency's Human Biomonitoring Commission (since 2024), former U.S. CPSC Chronic Hazard Advisory Panel (2010-2015)

His research focuses on human metabolism of novel chemicals, biomarker identification, and development of sensitive analytical methods, with applications in both occupational and general population studies. Recent work includes neonicotinoid exposure in Ireland, di-n-hexyl phthalate trends in Denmark, and harmonization of European biomonitoring protocols.
Key projects include the German National Surveys (GerES), Asian Biospecimen Collection (ABC), and EU-wide HBM4EU Aligned Studies. He develops urinary metabolite quantification techniques for exposure assessment and contributes to chemical safety regulations through advisory roles.
