Dr. Ho-Lung Li serves as a Lecturer in the Department of Mechanical Engineering within the Lyles College of Engineering at California State University, Fresno. He joined the faculty in 2018 and teaches a range of courses including ME 2 (Computer Applications in Mech Engineering Lab), ME 26 (Engineering Graphics), ME 95 (Product Development), ME 134 (Kinematics of Machinery), ME 154 (Design of Machine Elements), ME 191T (Microcontroller-Based Control Systems), and ME 162 (Computer-Aided Design).
His academic credentials are:
- Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Mechanical Engineering and Mechanics from Drexel University (2012)
- Master of Science (M.S.) in Mechanical Engineering and Mechanics from Drexel University (2008)
- Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Electrical Engineering from Tamkang University, Taiwan (2003)
Dr. Li's research expertise spans Control Systems, with a focus on real-time microprocessor control and robust control methodologies; Machine Design, particularly in machine element design and system integration; and Bioprinting, where he has developed 3D bio-printing systems for biomaterials. Additionally, his work encompasses Microfabrication, Computer-Aided Design (CAD), and Finite Element Analysis (FEA). His interdisciplinary approach has led to innovations in additive manufacturing and biomedical engineering applications.
An analysis of his selected publications indicates a consistent theme of applying advanced engineering techniques to solve complex problems in biomedicine and mechanical systems. Notably, his work on pneumatic valve dispensers for viscous biomaterials, angioneural crosstalk in spinal cord repair scaffolds, and flexible 3D printing systems demonstrates a strong commitment to advancing bioprinting and tissue engineering. Simultaneously, his contributions to control systems, such as DSP microprocessor hybrid control for inverted pendulums and high-pressure optical cells, highlight expertise in precision engineering and instrumentation.
Prior to his academic appointment, Dr. Li was the lead engineer at Shanyu Engineering Technology, where he directed research teams in designing and manufacturing control systems for customized projects and provided professional training for engineers. He has contributed to multiple National Science Foundation (NSF) funded projects, including the development of high pressure optical cells, 3D bio-printers, artificial photosynthesis devices, unmanned aerial vehicles, and control systems for flying munitions. While details of his current grant portfolio and student advising are not specified, his background suggests active engagement in research and mentorship.
Dr. Li's professional trajectory reflects a blend of industrial experience and academic research, with a focus on collaborative projects that bridge mechanical engineering and biomedical applications. His leadership in directing research teams and involvement in NSF-funded initiatives underscores his capability in managing complex engineering challenges.
