Hiroharu Mori is a contemporary artist and academic lecturer currently affiliated with Tokyo University of the Arts, Tokyo Zokei University, and Arts Initiative Tokyo (AIT) in Japan. He concurrently serves as a Visiting Scholar at MIT's Program in Art, Culture, and Technology (ACT), supported by the Agency for Cultural Affairs of the Japanese government, where his research focuses on Visual Representation in Multimedia Journalism and Studio Art Practices within higher education institutions.
Mori's practice critically engages with mass culture through video installations, public interventions, and explorations of translation slippages, identity politics, and everyday life tensions. His work balances rigorous social commentary with poetic playfulness, as evidenced by international exhibitions since 1998 including the Venice Biennale (2007) and Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale (2009). Current research at MIT ACT examines multimedia journalism's visual language and pedagogical frameworks in art education.
As co-founder of the artist-run organization ARTISTS’ GUILD (2009), Mori develops social experiments to innovate artistic support systems. His curatorial work includes co-directing MOT Annual 2016: Loose Lips Save Ships at Tokyo's Museum of Contemporary Art. Major solo exhibitions feature Death Workshop (New Zealand, 2015) and Speech Rehearsals (Australia, 2010), while group shows span institutions from Warsaw's Ujazdowski Castle to London's Royal Academy of Arts.
