Hilla Weidberg

Hilla Weidberg is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Cellular & Physiological Sciences at the University of British Columbia (UBC) Faculty of Medicine. Her research focuses on mitochondrial stress responses, protein quality control, and their roles in neurodegenerative diseases and aging. She is affiliated with the Life Sciences Institute and the Cell & Developmental Biology Research Group.

• Education: PhD from the Weizmann Institute of Science, BSc and MSc from Tel Aviv University, and postdoctoral training at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

The Weidberg Lab investigates mitochondrial homeostasis under physiological and disease-related stress conditions, particularly how protein import disruptions affect human health. Their work bridges basic biomedical research with applications in neurodegeneration and metabolic disorders.

Scientific recognition includes the BIOCAPS Spotlight award. The lab actively recruits researchers dedicated to molecular and mechanistic biology, offering opportunities for thesis-based graduate studies in Cell and Developmental Biology (MSc and PhD programs).
