Hilde Toonen

Hilde Toonen is a Research Fellow and lecturer at the Environmental Policy Group, Wageningen University, the Netherlands. Her research focuses on marine governance and marine spatial planning (MSP), particularly examining informational modes of decision-making and processes of inclusion and exclusion in policy frameworks.

Education:

• PhD in Environmental Sociology/Anthropology

Research Focus: She investigates innovative arrangements for reorganizing ocean sustainability, emphasizing interdisciplinary analysis. Within the PADDLE project, she collaborates with social science scholars from Senegal, Cabo Verde, Brazil, and Europe to compare political, legal, and governance frameworks in MSP, aiming to create inclusive and sustainable policies through cross-disciplinary and cross-cultural knowledge exchange.
