Hilary S. Bierman is a Senior Lecturer and Director of the Neuroscience Major in the Department of Biology at the University of Maryland. She has been affiliated with the university since 2011, teaching courses in Neurobiology and Mammalian Physiology, and has held an Elevate Teaching Fellowship. Her research focuses on evolutionary neurobiology, particularly the auditory system and sound localization in alligators, alongside studies on the evolution of fish startle responses. Dr. Bierman earned her Ph.D. in Neurobiology from the University of Chicago (2007) and a B.S. in Psychology from the University of Maryland (2001). She completed postdoctoral work at Brandeis University and returned to UMD for a second postdoc, remaining active in research on auditory system evolution.
