Hilary Neve is an Honorary Professor at the Peninsula Medical School, University of Plymouth, with extensive experience in medical education and primary care. She graduated in medicine from Bristol University in 1983 and has worked as a General Practitioner and medical educator in Plymouth since 1995. Her roles have included Associate Head of School for Medical Education, Director of Professionalism, and leadership in curriculum development for Problem Based Learning and professionalism training.
Research interests focus on Threshold Concepts to understand learner experience, hidden curriculum, capability development, shared decision-making, multi-morbidity consultations, and professionalism assessment. She has particular expertise in leadership development, global/planetary health, health inequalities, and gender equality in medical education.
Major achievements include developing innovative teaching pathways in motivational interviewing and clinical reasoning, establishing social engagement programs, and leading the school's successful application for FMLM Leadership accreditation. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she pioneered interactive online teaching methods for large student groups.
