Dr. Hilary Kalmbach is an Associate Professor in Middle East History at the University of Sussex's School of Media, Arts and Humanities, specializing in culture, religion, and art of the modern Middle East and North Africa. Her research explores Islamic modernization, gender dynamics in religious authority, and the transnational impact of educational reforms.
