Dr. Hiba Babiker is a researcher at the Max Planck Institute for the Science of Human History in Jena. She specializes in studying the genetic diversity and demographic history of indigenous African populations. Her work intersects genetics, anthropology, and linguistics, focusing on how genes and languages coevolve. In October 2017, she visited the University of Michigan's Linguistics Department to present a talk titled 'Inference of population structure and demographic history of indigenous populations from Africa,' highlighting findings from Northeast African and Dogon populations.
Her research emphasizes interdisciplinary approaches to decode human prehistory, particularly in understanding adaptation, disease susceptibility, and migration patterns. While at U-M, she participated in the HistLing discussion group on 'Tracing Prehistory Through DNA,' underscoring her commitment to collaborative scholarly discourse.
