Herbert Tomaso

Dr. Herbert Tomaso is Deputy Director of the Institute for Bacterial Infections and Zoonoses (IBIZ) at the Friedrich Loeffler Institute and Head of the Campylobacter and Tularemia Working Group. As a specialist in Microbiology, Virology, and Infectious Disease Epidemiology, his research focuses on zoonotic bacterial diseases, biodefense, and advanced diagnostic techniques.

Research Interests: Dr. Tomaso’s work spans genomic analysis of bacterial pathogens like Francisella tularensis and Bacillus anthracis, development of rapid detection methods (e.g., real-time PCR, MALDI-TOF MS), phylogenetic studies of zoonoses, and biodefense applications for biological threat agents.
