Herbert Jäckle is a renowned German biochemist and molecular biologist who has served as Director and Scientific Member at the Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry since 1991, and previously held the position of Vice President of the Max Planck Society from 2002-2014. He was appointed Full Professor of Genetics at Munich University in 1988 and holds an honorary professorship at the University of Göttingen since 1993.
Education:
- Doctorate in Chemistry and Biology, University of Freiburg (1977)
- German Habilitation in Biology, University of Tübingen (1984)
Research Interests: Jäckle's research focuses on fundamental biological processes including biochemical pathways, regulatory networks, molecular physiology, and the genetic and molecular basis of cellular and organismal energy homeostasis. His work bridges the gap between molecular mechanisms and physiological functions.
Scientific Recognition: Throughout his distinguished career, Jäckle has received numerous prestigious awards recognizing his contributions to science. These include the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prize (1986), membership in Academia Europaea (1990), the Karl Ritter von Frisch Medal (1992), the Louis Jeantet Prize for Medicine (1999), and the Federal Cross of Merit, 1st class (2010).
