Herbert Fockler

Herbert Fockler serves as a Lecturer at the University of California, Berkeley School of Law and Santa Clara University Law School, teaching Venture Capital Law courses including regular semester and summer executive tracks. Concurrently, he is a member of Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati's Corporate and Securities Department, representing high-technology companies for over 37 years in venture capital, public offerings, SEC compliance, and mergers and acquisitions across technology and biotechnology sectors.

His educational background includes:

• J.D. from Harvard Law School, cum laude
• A.B. in Physics from Princeton University

Mr. Fockler's professional expertise spans Business Law, Corporate Finance, Securities Regulation, Intellectual Property Law, Technology Law, and Venture Capital. His work is grounded in representing hundreds of start-up, venture-backed, and public companies including A10 Networks, Ambarella, AT&T, Autodesk, Dolby Laboratories, and Sun Microsystems across computer hardware/software, biotechnology, and web commerce domains.

He has held significant professional roles including past chairman of the ABA’s Venture Capital Transactions Committee and current member of the California Bar’s Legal Opinions Committee. Within Wilson Sonsini, he leads Innovation, Practice Excellence and Knowledge Management programs, authors standard forms, and mentors junior attorneys.

While teaching at both institutions, Mr. Fockler does not maintain formal graduate advisees but provides extensive professional mentorship. His industry engagement includes hosting Wharton School workshops and guest lecturing at Harvard, Stanford, and Santa Clara business schools, focusing on business formation, financing, and regulatory compliance.
