Henry Senior

Henry Senior is a Lecturer in Computer Science at The University of Salford and member of the Salford Informatics Research Centre. Previously, he completed his PhD at Queen Mary University of London's Digital Environment Research Institute (DERI) under supervision of Dr Shanxin Yuan, Dr Luca Rossi, and Prof Greg Slabaugh.

Senior's research focuses on the intersection of artificial intelligence and computer vision, with particular emphasis on applying Graph Neural Networks to Vision-Language problems. His work addresses scene understanding challenges, especially in developing multimodal representations that can describe rich interactions between objects in visual scenes. This research has significant implications for accessibility technologies for the visually impaired, as current models struggle to move beyond simple object recognition to understanding complex scene relationships.

His recent publications demonstrate a clear trajectory toward improving model efficiency and interpretability in computer vision tasks. Senior has made contributions to computational pathology through biologically interpretable models, advanced image captioning techniques using superpixels, and provided a comprehensive survey of graph neural networks in vision-language understanding. His work consistently addresses the challenge of representing images in ways that capture meaningful relationships between objects.

Academically active, Senior has served on the program committee for IAPR S+SSPR 2024 and will serve again for 2026. He regularly reviews for journals and conferences in his field. Beyond research, he contributes to teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate courses at Salford.

Senior maintains an active presence in the research community through DERI's interdisciplinary environment during his PhD and continues this collaborative approach at Salford.
