Henry Laurens is a Professor at the Collège de France, where he leads the Contemporary History of the Arab World Chair. His work focuses on the historical and political dynamics between the Arab East and the West from the 18th century to the present, including national trajectories in countries like Egypt, Syria, and Palestine.
Research interests include the history of the Mediterranean region, Arab political cultures analyzed through memorial literature, and the evolution of international crises in the Middle East. He has organized lecture series on topics such as the Palestine question post-2001 and the legitimacy crisis of Palestinian power.
Laurens actively participates in academic events, including upcoming lectures through December 2025 and symposia like the "Europe and Palestine" collaboration with the Arab Center for Research and Political Studies (CAREP). The chair also hosts seminars and interdisciplinary colloquia to contextualize current affairs.
