Henry Du

Dr. Henry Du is Professor and Associate Dean for Research in the Schaefer School of Engineering and Science at Stevens Institute of Technology, with expertise in photonic materials and sensor technologies.

Research Focus: His laboratory develops nanostructured optical fibers for chemical/biomedical sensing, including surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) platforms for harsh environments and medical diagnostics. Current projects focus on sapphire fiber sensors, lab-in-fiber optofluidics, and nanoplasmonic materials.

Publications: With over 100 publications, Dr. Du's work spans fundamental photonics, nanomaterial engineering, and diagnostic applications. Recent innovations include high-temperature plasmonic sensors and urine-based cancer prognosis methods.

Leadership: As Associate Dean since 2018, he oversees research strategy and infrastructure. Honors include SPIE Fellowship, multiple research awards, and editorship of Journal of the American Ceramic Society.

Technology Transfer: His patented nanostructured sapphire fiber platform enables sensing in extreme conditions, with applications in energy, aerospace, and biomedical industries.
