Dr. Henry Burridge is an Associate Professor in Environmental Fluid Mechanics at Imperial College London's Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, part of the Faculty of Engineering. His work focuses on mathematical modeling of heat and pollutant transport in buildings, with significant contributions to ventilation systems, air quality, and pandemic response strategies. He has held roles including Fluid Mechanics section Chief, MSc Admissions Co-Lead, and Departmental Laser Safety Officer since 2016.
Education: PhD (Imperial College London, 2009–2012) and MEng (University of Bristol, 1996–2001). His research spans fluid dynamics of mixing, building physics, and infection risk modeling. Notable projects include the SAMHE initiative for school air quality monitoring and contributions to the UK's National Core Studies during the pandemic.
Awards:
- UKRI Parliamentary Showcase Exhibitor (2024)
- UK Government Chief Scientific Adviser recognition (2023)
- Provost’s Health and Safety Award (2022)
Advising and grants: Supervised projects on ventilation dynamics and airborne disease transmission. Led technical advisory panels for HM Government and contributed to SAGE papers during the pandemic. Active in educational outreach through summer schools and co-designing air quality web apps with schools.
Labs/Teams: Central to the Fluid Mechanics section, collaborating with the Royal Society’s pandemic modeling group and the International Centre for Mechanical Sciences.
