Henrike C. Lange

Henrike C. Lange is an Associate Professor at the University of California, Berkeley, holding a joint appointment in the Departments of History of Art and Italian Studies. Her research explores Italian and European medieval and early modern art, architecture, visual culture, and literature in relation to the Mediterranean, alongside expertise in nineteenth and twentieth century historiography, art, and literature.

Lange’s scholarship focuses on perspective, narrative, medium, materiality, and spirituality within historical contexts. She is currently completing a monograph on Giotto’s Arena Chapel and the Roman Jubilee of 1300. Her museum experience spans curatorial roles at institutions like the Yale University Art Gallery and Kunsthalle Hamburg.

Lange has received major fellowships from Yale University, the Renaissance Society of America, and the Notre Dame Institute for Advanced Study. She actively collaborates with interdisciplinary programs at Berkeley, including the Designated Emphasis in Renaissance and Early Modern Studies and the Center for the Study of Religion.

Her teaching integrates curatorial practice and interdisciplinary research, covering courses on Botticelli, triumphs in art and literature, and psychologies of art.
