His recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on the intersection of philosophy, climate science, and policy, with particular attention to risk assessment, values in scientific modeling, and interdisciplinary approaches to sustainability challenges. The articles show a consistent theme of examining how scientific knowledge is produced, communicated, and utilized in addressing complex environmental problems.
Thorén leads several significant research projects including 'RIVET: Risk, values, and decision-making in the economics of climate change' and 'LOKAL: The role of local knowledge in assessments of biodiversity loss and climate change impacts.' He has also organized numerous workshops and conferences, including the 'Sustainability and the Philosophy of 'Friluftsliv'' event scheduled for 2025 and the 'RIVET Stakeholder Workshop' in 2024.
His teaching portfolio includes courses such as 'Theoretical Philosophy: Philosophy of Science' and 'Theoretical Philosophy: Critical Investigator - Level 1,' demonstrating his commitment to educating the next generation of philosophers and interdisciplinary thinkers. Thorén's work contributes to multiple UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly those related to climate action, sustainable cities and communities, and life on land.
