Henrik Selin is a Professor of International Relations at the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies, Boston University, and an Affiliated Faculty member with the Institute for Global Sustainability (IGS). He serves as an Associate Dean for Studies and Editor of the journal Global Environmental Politics. His research focuses on international environmental policy, sustainable development, and governance of hazardous substances. Selin holds a PhD from Linköping University (2000) and BA/MA from Lund University (1995).
Key research interests include global environmental treaty-making, mercury pollution governance, and EU environmental policies. He authored Mercury Stories (MIT Press, 2020) and Global Governance of Hazardous Chemicals (MIT Press, 2010), both awarded runner-up for the Harold and Margaret Sprout Prize. His work bridges social and natural sciences, emphasizing interdisciplinary collaboration.
Awarded a fellowship at the Technical University of Munich (2018–2022), Selin also coordinates the IR & Environmental Policy program and teaches courses on global governance, European environmental policy, and climate change politics. He is affiliated with the Center for the Study of Europe and the Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer-Range Future.
