Henrik Rothe is a Senior Lecturer in Airport Planning and Management at Cranfield University. He holds a Master of Architecture and Urban Planning from the Architectural Association, School of Architecture in London, awarded the RIBA President’s Medal in 2000. His work bridges airport design, urban planning, and sustainable development, focusing on the integration of airports with their urban environments. He leads the City Boarding Lab at the Digital Aviation Research and Technology Centre (DARTeC), exploring future airport-city relationships and decarbonization strategies.
Rothe’s research includes the Urban Turbine Project and the Integrated Multimodal Airport Operations (IMHOTEP) initiative, funded by the European Commission. He collaborates with industry partners like Flughafen Salzburg GmbH and Singapore University of Social Sciences. His teaching spans airport design, strategic planning, and process simulation, emphasizing real-world applications through workshops and industry-linked projects.
Notable awards include the Best Thesis Award (Cranfield University, 2017) for student Matthias Auer and recognition for his role in the Khartoum International Airport project. His work addresses post-pandemic aviation challenges, green hydrogen adoption, and sustainable mobility transitions.
