Henning-Friis Poulsen is a Professor at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), heading the 3D Imaging Centre. He chairs Danscatt, the Danish instrument centre for neutron and synchrotron users, and serves as Principal Investigator for DanMAX at MAX IV and the LINX societal partnership. He also interim-manages a MAX IV imaging data analysis centre co-hosted by DTU and KU.
His academic credentials include:
- PhD in Physics from the University of Copenhagen (1992)
- Dr. Techn. Degree (2004)
Professor Poulsen's research sits at the confluence of X-ray physics, instrumentation, and materials science. He pioneers multiscale characterization methods for crystalline materials, with applications in sustainable energy through the CINEMA strategic alliance. His work transitions fundamental science to industry via co-founded companies Xnovo (grain-resolved X-ray imaging) and Exruprive (airport security solutions).
His scientific recognition includes:
- ERC Advanced Grant for Diffraction based transmission X-ray microscopy
He has secured major research funding including leadership of the Danish Centre of Excellence Metal Structures in Four Dimensions (2001-2011) and the LINX partnership, bridging academic research with industrial applications through strategic alliances and national infrastructure projects.
Professor Poulsen directs the 3D Imaging Centre and CINEMA alliance at DTU while contributing to national facilities through Danscatt and MAX IV beamline operations, maintaining active roles in both research infrastructure development and commercialization initiatives.
