Captain Henk Warnar is an Associate Professor of Naval Strategy at the Netherlands Defence Academy's Faculty of War Studies, concurrently serving as Director of the Dutch Seapower Course and editor of the Militaire Spectator. He holds a Master's in Public Administration (Leiden University) and a Naval War College degree. With 39 years of Dutch Navy service, his operational experience spans submarine/frigate commands, NATO roles, and policy-making at the MOD. His research focuses on Dutch naval strategic thought (1892–1940), examining how professional debate shaped defensive strategies for the Netherlands East Indies. His work challenges narratives of strategic failure, emphasizing adaptive professionalism despite colonial constraints.
