Hengrui Luo is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Statistics at Rice University, affiliated with the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) and the Ken Kennedy Institute (K2I). He holds a B.S. in Mathematics from Sun Yat-sen University (2015) and a Ph.D. in Statistics from The Ohio State University (2020). His research focuses on Bayesian methods, topological data analysis, and high-dimensional probability, with applications in quantum computing, machine learning, and randomized algorithms. He has been supported by grants from the NSF, DOE, and K2I Seedling Grant.
Dr. Luo's work bridges statistical theory and computational methods, addressing challenges in scalable Bayesian modeling, uncertainty quantification, and topological approaches to data analysis. His recent publications explore quantum machine learning, efficient preconditioning techniques, and decision tree methods for tensor regressions. He has received awards including the 2021 SIAM Early Career Travel Award and the 2020 Craig Cooley Memorial Prize for Scholar Excellence.
