Hendrik Träger is a Lecturer at the Institute of Political Science, Faculty of Social Sciences and Philosophy, University of Leipzig. He has been a faculty member since 2014, contributing to the research area 'Political System of Germany / Politics in Europe' and currently serves as deputy chairman of the Saxon Competence Center for State and Local Politics (SKLK).
Research Interests: His primary research areas include political parties, elections at EU, federal, state, and local levels, coalition formation in Germany, and German federalism. He has a strong focus on East German political behavior and subnational party systems.
Recent Publication Trends: His recent scholarly output centers on electoral behavior in East Germany, the performance of minor parties, and European Parliament elections in East Central Europe. His work often examines the interplay between demographic change, political dissatisfaction, and voting patterns, particularly for anti-establishment parties.
Professional Engagement: Dr. Träger is an active public intellectual, providing expert commentary to major media outlets including Der Spiegel, FAZ, ZDF, and Deutsche Welle. He is a member of the German Association for Political Science (DVPW) and the German Association for Parliamentary Questions (DVParl).
Teaching and Supervision: He teaches courses on the German political system and comparative politics, supervises bachelor's and master's theses, and organizes excursions to political centers in Berlin and Dresden.
