Hendrik Bentmann

Hendrik Bentmann serves as Associate Professor in the Department of Physics at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), where he leads research on quantum materials with complex topological and magnetic properties using angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy (ARPES) at NTNU's dedicated laboratory and international synchrotron facilities including PETRA III at DESY in Hamburg.

His research centers on quantum materials, topological phases, and electronic structure phenomena, with particular emphasis on momentum-resolved spectroscopy of 2D/3D crystalline systems. Key investigations include orbital angular momentum in chiral semimetals, topological band inversions, and spin-orbit coupling effects in magnetic materials, leveraging ARPES to directly probe electronic structures.

Recent publications (2023-2025) reveal consistent focus on topological materials in high-impact journals including Physical Review X, Physical Review Letters, and Physical Review B. Dominant themes involve chiral topological systems (CoSi), magnetic extensions of topological states, and surface-bulk electronic interactions, with strong methodological emphasis on ARPES-based momentum-space imaging and spin-polarization analysis.

Professor Bentmann has supervised Master's research including Richard Justin Schenk's thesis on CuFeS₂ thin films, and maintains active collaborations with DESY, DPG, and European materials research consortia. His teaching includes quantum physics and instrumentation courses at NTNU.

He directs NTNU's ARPES laboratory and regularly presents findings at major conferences including DPG Spring Meetings and European Materials Research Society events, with recent work on surface preparation of topological insulators and magnetic oxides for band-structure measurements.
