Hemant B. Kaushik

Dr. Hemant B. Kaushik is the BIS Chair Professor and Dean (Online Education & Skilling) at the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati. He is a Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering and an associated faculty at the Centre for Disaster Management and Research. With a career spanning nearly two decades at IIT Guwahati, he has held key administrative roles including Head of the Centre for Educational Technology and Associate Dean (Academic Affairs – Online Programs).

Research Focus: Dr. Kaushik’s research is centered on earthquake-resistant design, nonlinear behavior of structures, seismic vulnerability assessment, and disaster risk management. His work extensively covers the seismic evaluation and retrofitting of masonry and RC structures, particularly in the Himalayan region. He has pioneered studies on Assam-type wooden houses and confined masonry buildings, contributing significantly to sustainable and resilient construction practices.

Labs & Teams: Dr. Kaushik leads research at the Centre for Disaster Management and Research and collaborates with the Centre for Educational Technology. His team focuses on experimental and numerical investigations of structural behavior under seismic loads, contributing to both academic knowledge and practical engineering solutions.
