Helm Jansen

J.W. (Helm) Jansen holds the position of Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at Eindhoven University of Technology. He also serves as a System Architect in the Precision Solutions program at Prodrive Technologies, while maintaining academic involvement through student supervision. His expertise spans electromechanical systems, with a focus on high-precision applications such as linear motors, magnetic bearings, and wireless energy transfer systems. He earned his MSc (cum laude) and PhD from TU Eindhoven in 2003 and 2007, respectively.

Research interests include advanced electromechanical device modeling and design, including linear/planar motors, integrated magnetic bearings, and multi-DOF actuators. His work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to innovation and infrastructure. Key research tools include semi-analytical and numerical methods like the stream-function approach and finite element modeling.

Awards include the Best paper award LDIA2013 (twice), KIvI-E prize, PPJ Education Award, and Invited Paper Award. His activities include invited talks on magnetically levitated systems and contributions to international conferences. He maintains ties to the Electromechanics Lab and collaborates with industry through Prodrive's Precision Solutions group.
