Hella Liira is a Junior Lecturer in German Language at the University of Tartu's Faculty of Arts and Humanities, Institute of Foreign Languages and Cultures. She holds a Master's Degree in German Studies (2018) and is currently pursuing a PhD, focusing on representations of the German Democratic Republic in post-unification literature. Her roles include teaching language courses (from beginner to pre-intermediate levels), leading seminars on German literature, translation, and creative writing. She has organized cultural projects such as the DAAD-funded theater production of J.M.R. Lenz's 'PANDAEMONIUM GERMANIKUM' and a literary stroll in Tartu.
Education: MA cum laude in German Studies (2018), BA in German Language and Literature (2010), both from the University of Tartu.
Research interests span German literature, cultural memory, 18th-century drama, and the literary representation of historical spaces like the GDR. Her creative work bridges academic and public engagement, including workshops and museum collaborations.
Her publications include studies on translation, historical memory in literature, and cultural heritage projects. She has received funding from DAAD for collaborative initiatives with the University of Potsdam.
