Heliodoro Carpintero

Heliodoro Carpintero is a retired university professor specializing in Basic Psychology. He held academic positions at institutions including the Complutense University of Madrid, University of Valencia, Autonomous University of Barcelona, and Open University of Madrid (UDIMA). His roles included Vice Chancellor at UDIMA (2009–2014) and Dean of the Faculty of Psychology at the University of Valencia (1983–1988). He has been a Full Professor of Psychology, leading research projects and supervising over fifty doctoral theses. His work focuses on the history of psychology, bibliometric methodologies, and Spanish intellectual thought.

Dr. Carpintero is a member of prestigious academies such as the Spanish Royal Academy of Moral and Political Sciences (since 2000) and the Spanish Academy of Psychology (since 2015). He has received multiple honorary degrees (Doctor Honoris Causa) from universities in Spain and Argentina. He founded the journal Revista de Historia de la Psicología and was instrumental in establishing the Spanish Society for the History of Psychology.

His research contributions span international organizations: he served on steering committees for the International Union of Psychological Science (IUPsyS) and International Association of Applied Psychology (IAAP), and led the IAAP History of Applied Psychology Division (2010–2014). His authored books include History of Psychology in Spain and Ortega, psychologist, reflecting his deep engagement with Spanish intellectual history.

He has been honored with the Huarte de San Juan Award and holds honorary professorships at multiple institutions in Peru. His academic leadership includes presiding over the Spanish Federation of Psychology Associations (1994–2004).
