Helene Vos is an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Behavioural and Movement Sciences and a member of the LEARN! - Learning sciences team at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. Her research focuses on cognitive and educational factors influencing mathematical performance, individual differences in learning, and working memory's role in educational outcomes. She explores topics such as gender differences in math performance, ordinality processing in arithmetic, and developmental shifts in cognitive strategies.
Her educational contributions include teaching courses like Curriculum Studies, Learning and School Performance: Neurocognitive and Social Conditions, and Dealing with Individual Differences in the Classroom. She actively investigates how cognitive mechanisms interact with educational practices to enhance learning.
Notable research areas include the interplay between working memory, math anxiety, and gender stereotypes; the transition from cardinal to ordinal processing in early arithmetic education; and the role of perceptual factors like object size in comparative judgments. Her work bridges cognitive psychology and educational practice, aiming to inform teaching strategies.
Dr. Vos collaborates internationally, with research networks focused on developmental psychology, numerical cognition, and educational interventions. She has published in journals such as Learning and Individual Differences and Quarterly Journal of Experimental Psychology, contributing peer-reviewed articles on cognitive development and learning sciences.
