- Postdoctoral Fellow, Motor Control and Neuroplasticity Research Centre, KU Leuven, Belgium
Dr. Sisti's research focuses on the neural mechanisms underlying optimal human performance, with particular emphasis on learning and neuroplasticity. Her work bridges sports psychology and neuroscience, investigating how the brain adapts during skill acquisition and performance. She has made significant contributions to understanding motor control, bimanual coordination, and concussion assessment in sports. A consistent theme throughout her three-decade career has been exploring what drives and sustains optimal performance, and how to empower others to achieve it. She actively involves students in all aspects of research, from ideation to publication.
Her publication record demonstrates a clear evolution from early work on stress, maternal separation, and neurogenesis toward more applied research on motor control, bimanual coordination, and concussion assessment. Recent publications increasingly focus on the practical applications of neuroscience in sports performance and rehabilitation, reflecting her interest in bridging basic neuroscience with real-world performance enhancement.

Dr. Sisti has served as a reviewer for numerous scholarly journals including Journal of NeuroEngineering and Rehabilitation, Neurorehabilitation and Repair, and Attention, Perception & Psychophysics. In 2023, she served as guest Executive Editor of the Journal of Motor Behavior. She has also served on the NIH Sensory-Motor Neuroscience Study Section. Her research has attracted both intramural and extramural funding, supporting her work on concussion assessment and motor control. She actively mentors students in research, emphasizing exploration, curiosity, patience, perseverance, and tackling difficult challenges.
Dr. Sisti collaborates with researchers at multiple institutions including the National Center for Adaptive Neurotechnologies, University of Vermont, Dartmouth College, and Hasselt University in Belgium. Her work bridges laboratory neuroscience with practical applications in sports performance and rehabilitation, creating a unique interdisciplinary research environment for students.
