Helene Hjelmervik is an Associate Professor at the Department of Psychology, Pedagogy and Law within the School of Health Sciences at Kristiania University of Applied Sciences. Her research focuses on cognitive neuroscience, psychopathology, neuroimaging, hormonal effects on brain function, clinical psychology, and neurochemistry. She has conducted studies on auditory verbal hallucinations in schizophrenia, menstrual cycle effects on cognitive function, and the neurochemical basis of mental disorders. Her work integrates neuroimaging techniques like fMRI and MR spectroscopy with clinical assessments.
- Expertise: Auditory hallucinations, hormonal modulation of cognition, schizophrenia, GABA-glutamate systems, and neuroimaging
- Notable Projects: PEXACOG trial on exercise-augmented therapy for anxiety in older adults
Her research highlights interconnections between neurochemistry, brain connectivity, and mental health conditions. She collaborates on studies involving resting-state networks, neurochemical metabolites, and app-based monitoring of hallucinations.
