Helene Guetat-Bernard

Hélène Guetat-Bernard is a Professor of Sociology at the Interdisciplinary Laboratory for Solidarity, Societies, Territories (LISST) within Université Toulouse - Jean Jaurès. She belongs to the Department of Geography, Planning, Environment and leads research through LISST's Rural Dynamics team. Her work focuses on gender and agricultural development in France, Africa, and Brazil, employing qualitative methodologies including life narratives and participant observation.

Her research examines:

• Gendered dynamics in family farming systems
• Rural-urban mobility patterns
• Environmental care practices and resource management
• Socio-economic links to agricultural resources
• Food culture and sustainability transitions

She coordinates international partnerships with institutions like IRD and CIRAD.

Recent publications demonstrate strong focus on sustainable agriculture through gendered and transdisciplinary lenses, analyzing ecological impacts of farming practices, educational approaches in agriculture, and socio-environmental justice issues across Global South contexts.

As thesis director for 8 doctoral students, she mentors emerging scholars in gender-agriculture research. She coordinates the European Master EGALES program and participates in international networks including GENgiBRe Project on ecofeminism in Brazil.
