Helena Solman is a postdoctoral researcher at the Environmental Policy Group of Wageningen University & Research. Her work focuses on digitalization in energy sectors, particularly wind energy governance, and involves interdisciplinary collaboration across technical, policy, and societal domains. She leads the social science component of the Holi-DOCTOR project (NWO-funded), developing a digital tool for wind turbine blade monitoring while emphasizing stakeholder and public engagement.
Her PhD research ('Digitalisation as an act of governance: the case of wind energy') explored how digital technologies reshape governance in renewable energy through the UPWARDS project. She holds memberships in NERA, ETIP Wind Energy, and Energy Alliance, reflecting her active role in energy policy networks.
Key research interests include sustainability transitions, co-innovation models, landscape governance, and the socio-technical integration of digital twins in energy systems. Her work bridges technical innovation with participatory methods to address challenges like community acceptance of wind energy projects.
Notable projects include the Holi-DOCTOR initiative (2021–present) and UPWARDS (2018–2022), which integrated simulation frameworks for wind turbine dynamics. Her articles analyze topics like noise management in wind farms and socio-technical governance frameworks for renewable energy.
Helena contributes to courses such as 'Principles of Climate Change Economics and Policy' (ENR22806) and 'Metropolitan Solutions' (YMS60312), reflecting her educational outreach in environmental policy disciplines.
