Dr. Helen Young is a Senior Lecturer in Literary Studies at Deakin University's School of Communication and Creative Arts. She serves as President of the Australia and New Zealand Association for Medieval and Early Modern Studies, and contributes to academic discourse as co-editor of the New Directions in Medieval Studies book series and the Journal of Historical Fictions, while also participating in the editorial board of Perspectives on Fantasy.

Her research focuses on medievalism in modern media, exploring intersections of race, racism, and the fantasy genre. She has authored three monographs: Constructing 'England' in the Fourteenth Century (2010), Race and Popular Fantasy Literature (2015), and Global Medievalism: An Introduction (2022, coauthored with Dr. Kavita Mudan Finn). Her recent work examines transmedia representations of the Middle Ages, particularly in video games.
